Hi everyone, so here's the deal - we have booked flights to Salzburg and are ready for 24th - 31st of December.
Now the accommodation bit. Oh my G!
There are millions of places. We spent the first two ski trips this year around Kaprun, Zell and Rauris in Austria. We spent a day in Ski Amade and LOVED the variety of slopes there.
So please to anyone out there - that has gone to this area before - I would LOVE some advice. I have found 10 sites with accommodation in the "small" villages around the Ski Armade (Dienten, Maria st Alm etc etc).
But there are hundreds of places. I know you could not really go wrong with any of them. But would LOVE A SKI IN AND SKI OUT facility. Something really close to the Ski LIfts - I jsut hate walking in Boots ;-)
Any help warmly welcomed.

Hi
First - you need to decide which part of Ski Amade you want to go to. Maria Alm and Dienten are at one end, and Schladming at the other.
I don't know Maria Alm and Dienten for skiing but my impression is they are not that wee lionked. Maria Alm is pretty but has farly limited skiing.
One great place for ski-in, ski-out is Zuachensee. If you stay at the Zauchenseehof you are a stone's thrwo from the gondola. Drawbacks are that it is a ski-only resort and only really hotels to stay in though the village of Altenmarks, a skibus ride away, is very good for shopping etc. Plus, you can ski to Flachau from the resort and it's high.
depends on your budget but, if you can really spash out, the Scwigerhof in Rorhmoos (part of the Schladming 4 mountains resort) is PERFECT. The bay ski lift is at the door and from there you can ski to Schladming, Haus and Reiteralm. It's 4 star though and expensive. There are other cheaper options in Rohrmoos and most you can ski back to.
Flachau also has lot of options.
Hope someone else knows Maria Alm better than I do and can advise on those resorts

Hi Bunty, thanks for the reply - will take a look now at Zuachensee adn see what options are there - much appreciated.
For everyone else - does NOT have to be only Maria Alm, or Dienten - I am not very good with names - and these were the only two I could PRONOUNCE ;-) - so anywhere that allows me to "access" the Ski Armade selection of runs - and somewhre that has a couple of place sto eat will do me just fine.

Radstadt is a lovely little town but it's not really ski-in/ski-out as there is very little skiing in the village. Obertauern is a way up the valley and you woudl need a car or good bus service.
Obertauern could meet your requirements but it is very much a purpos-built reort. Good, snow-sure skiing but mainly hotels.
Schladming/Haus/Rohrmoos and Riteralm are all connecetd and the same with Flachau/Wagrain/Alpendorf

Schladming is fantastic skiing and only 1 hr 15 min transfer from Salzburg. Not a big British used resort but put it this way my group went there for 5 years. We ranged from good intermediate to advanced and were aged 40-50.

For completeness, I will give an update to this topic.
I have booked after some research: to EXTEND my trip by one week. So now will be doing 17th to 31st!
And we will do one week in Obertauern, and one week in Flachau!
I have found two fantastic hotels with Ski -in and ski- out in both locations.... I will give you an update in January!
