hi, looking for a resort that has good inbounds offpiste powder or tree skiing. Not so interested in the big wide autobahn runs. Maybe the Zillertal?

Welcome to J2ski :D The concept of "in bounds" off piste does not really work well in Europe, where everything beyond the piste markers is off piste and may not be managed or made safe by a resort. You will need to therefore plan and prepare your route accordingly.
Suggest:
St Anton
Les Arcs
Tignes/Val D'Isere
Zermatt
Verbier
Chamonix
La Grave
Should be on your list.

We would normally stay within the ski resort boundary but drop off the side of the groomed runs when safe to do so & where there is an easy exit back out. Sometimes the 'nearpiste' or between the pistes has good untracked snow. Thankyou for the warning about it not being managed. At the moment, Hochfugen Freeride Area looks interesting. We will also return back to Axamer Lizum which had some easy tree skiing. Hopefully there will be an oportunity for fresh tracks in deep powder.
