Situated at the centre of the Valle Aurina, Luttach and Sand in Taufers are pleasant traditional villages. The main ski area at Speikboden is reached by a short drive although it is possible to ski all the way back, snow cover permitting.

Speikboden ski centre gets its name from a particular kind of flower – the Speik. It grows on the high mountains.

Usually the Speik can be white or blue when it belongs to the primrose family.
