Summer Snow On Canadian Peaks

Summer Snow On Canadian Peaks

Published : 30-Aug-2026 15:32

Several ski areas in Western Canada have reported 5-10cm of snowfall on their higher terrain overnight.

Sunshine ski area in Alberta near Banff (pictured below) and Kicking Horse in BC (pictured above) both announced a good white covering this morning.

There's currently no lift-accessed outdoor ski slopes open in North America, but anticipation for the upcoming 26-27 season is being hyped up with the forecast 'Super El Nino' conditions this winter expected to bring more precipitation than usual, hopefully falling as snow, in some regions.

Canada's season usually starts in about two months, at the end of October or start of November, with Banff resorts including sunshine usually alongst the first to open. Sunshine's season then runs to late May, usually the longest in the country at nearly seven months.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is currently projected to open for its 2026/2027 winter ski season on December 11, 2026
