Canada's Sunshine Re-Opening For Rare Summerski Fortnight

Canada's Banff Sunshine Village will open for a rare spell of summer skiing from June 20. The resort's Strawberry Express chairlift will run throughout the summer window, with the Standish chair also operating so long as snow conditions remain good and the resort plans to add a Summer Strawberry Terrain Park.
Sunshine recorded more than 1,000 centimetres of snowfall during the 2025/26 season, over 33 feet of snow and enough to justify 16 days of summer skiing from June 20 to July 5, which takes in Canada's national day on the 1st. The resort says the combination of deep coverage and high‑alpine terrain makes skiing on Canada Day not just possible, but irresistible.
"Back in June of 2022 when we opened for summer skiing, we saw such a positive response from our community. It was then that we decided, if we're ever presented with the opportunity to open for summer skiing in the future – we need to do what we can to make it happen," said Kendra Scurfield, VP Communications at Banff Sunshine Village. "As a team, we're ecstatic about our upcoming summer ski season. Honestly, what's more Canadian than skiing in your cut off jean shorts on Canada Day?"
The announcement caps a milestone season for Sunshine, which opened on November 2nd last year, its earliest start in 40 years, for its usual 6-month-plus winter to mid-May. Its seasonal snowfall total was also its second greatest ever, hence the reopening decision for summer skiing for only the second time this century.
