There is no specific age as to what is too young to start boarding but from memory I think 7 was the youngest the ski school was happy to take.
Its a bit like skiing. Some people will start their kids as young as 2 or 3 but personally I would say the best age is 4 upwards only because they have a bit more strength and understanding and also a bit more interest but then again you have the odd child younger who picks it up and wants to be there so it is always child dependant.
How young can you start to snowboard?

I was on the wind up. Snowboarding definitely has its place and I know a few skiers who think that snowboarding pow is great. Skiing makes a lot of things a whole load easier though.
 getting late!
Do you ski as well?

My girls started skiing at 5 and 6 and then decided after they had completed all ski school levels to go boarding, they would have been 8 and 9. Ski school did not want to take them under 7 - so your son should be fine. They have been to surf school 8 times now and learn something new each time, they wil be going back to surf school next week (even though they have passed the same level 3 times already, it is still worth it IMO). Do get your son some wristguards and kneepads as they fall all the time when learning. I try and get my girls to ski in the morning with us instead of boarding as they do the boarder "sitting down" thing every time they stop!!!

Just go flying up to them and do a hockey stop to cover them in snow. They soon remember that skiers are the number 1's on the slopes 8)

Pablo Escobar - when did snowboarding start slowly dying then ? i'm intrigued... lol
Tony_H - hmmm, you can do a "hockey stop" and cover them in snow on a snowboard too y'know, but if that's what you think makes skiers "number 1's" on the slopes....

Pablo, I figured as much, hence the "lol"
the one thing I will concede is that being able to pole across flat traverses and not unbuckle IS the definite advantage skiing has over riding
two edges on icy surfaces is another one..
..but nothing can beat riding in the pow !!
