Cold is a factor with any North American resort in January and for the Tahoe resorts my concern would be snow.
I would recommend Banff on the basis it is one of my favourite places in the world but I don't have many other resorts to compare it to in North America for you.

I've spent most of today with my nose in WTSS and, in the resorts I've been looking at, it only mentions the bitter cold in banff, lake louise and tremblant.
I've whitled it down to whistler and snowmass, very different but they both tick all the boxes. Now I have to sit tight and see if I can still walk this time in 32 days and hope that the price doesn't call for a second mortgage

You will get the bitter cold everywhere even if it doesn't mention it. The bitter cold in Banff doesn't feel bad because the air is so dry. I'd take a dry -30 over a moist -20 in Whistler any day.
For some reason I just have no desire whatsoever to visit Whistler.
Here's to walking!!

Generally when it is humid it feels colder. Give me -40 in Banff any day over -5 here on the West Cost of Scotland. I am not exaggerating.
How have your injuries been since you returned from Niederau?

They feel about 95% normal, it's only when I crouch down that I feel it a bit.
