Ok so here is my wish list,
Banff
Whistler or
Lake Louise
Which would be the best place to holiday with the kids aged 5 and 8.Preferably somewhere close to the piste and not having to trek miles.
My 8yr old has 5 seasons skiing behind him and my 5yr old has just had her first.
I`m open to suggestions as to any where else that might be appropriate in Canada and when would be the best time to go.

hi AJ
i've looked into these resorts for christmas with my two boys (7 and 11). our priorities are snow, convenience and good intermediate runs.
as much as i love the idea of christmas on lake louise, it has the same problems as banff which is that they're both a bus ride to the slopes and are supposed to be absolutely freezing which obviously isn't great for the kids. whistler ticks every box but I keep hearing about the rain, yuk!
so we don't know what to do... probably val thorens. i'm open to argument though :-)

(having read that back, weather is obviously a priority too!)

Hi Carona,Looks like we have the same dilemma as to where to go.Although we (hubby ) and the kids love Niederau i long to try Canada or somewhere else the other side of the pond. But the last thing i want to hear from the kids first thing in a morning is ARE WE NEARLY THERE YET on our way to the slopes.
As you said i too am open to suggestions,Hopefully some of the crew will come up with a few suggestions.

With kids, Whistler is a great destination. The ski School has one of, if not the best kids ski school programs in the world. You can drop off the kids at ski school in the morning and go off skiing for the day and then pick them up in the afternoon. Ski school feeds them for lunch and they get to ski with other kids their age and level.
Whistler has some great ski in/out accommodations which makes it very easy to come and go. Whistler is the best resort in North America hands down!

Whistler,
Strengths are numerous, great snow, not bad lift queues, well managed mountain, awesome glacier skiing. Interesting locals. Ski buses from anywhere in the town to both areas, every 10 minutes, and only 5 minutes to the slope.
Weakness, and it destroyed the second week of a two week stay, is the mountain mist that descends, you are skiing in total whiteout.
Would not consider going to Canada before March because of low temperature.
But while Whistler/Blackcomb was good. I still give the edge to Colorado, Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, A Basin, Keystone.
Central Canada still on my hitlist, so cannot comment.

I'll be there on Saturday for a week so I'll give you some feedback after that.

Dave Mac-low temp doesn't feel cold. -39 in Banff feels like -3 here in Scotland, it is an extremely dry cold and you don't really feel it. Good gloves are essential otherwise a thermal/midlayer/jacket is fine if not too much in some cases.
