SERJOE - I haven't been there, I was simply offering advice, a big reason why people post on this forum.

To be honest I would not expect bad reviews to be found on the website of a Bulgarian Travel Agents, which is what Bulgariaski.com are. i am guessing from your post that you aren't English, possibly you are from Bulgaria yourself?

I'm sure that given time and proper investment Bulgaria's ski areas will improve but until that happens, both on slope and off it I think I would rather pay a little more and go for a more tourist friendly ski area, such as Austria. After all, you get what you pay for in this life and I'm sure there is a very good reason why Bulgaria is as cheap as it is.

I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

It is true that there can be bad queues here in Bansko during school holidays, just like any ski resort.
But there are ways around this - we just drive a bit further up the mountain to the next lift or ski in Dobrinishte, the small resort next to Bansko.

Bansko is not your usual ski resort - it is that little bit different and as with all resorts some people love it, others prefer France!

Personally, we love being out here and we are enjoying seeing Bansko develop - give it a chance, it's only been going for a few years, so it does have some catching up to do!

I'm afraid after extensive research the only advice I can give is...DON'T. Seriously I spent ages trawling through endless reviews online as we were considering Bansko as our 2nd ski hol in 2008 and whilst you expect to have the odd duff review nothing could prepare for the sheer volume of duff reviews, if the place is half as bad as the reviews then I'd rather ski in Austria anytime, but that's just me, I'm sure you've done your own research before booking. If you do go it would be interesting to gauge your thoughts.

Thats about the sum of what I deduced as well, FW. I know its not right to pass judgement on somewhere you havent been, but it strikes me there are plenty of reason NOT to go. I understand food and drink is very cheap, but I also know a few people who had food poisoning and also had their drinks spiked. Brits have been buying in Bulgaria for a few years because of the country entering the EU which means an automatic rise in prices, so dont thing for one minute that its because the Brits love the place - its called earning a fast buck!

Having read reviews, studied brochures, listened to people who have been, I would steer clear of Bulgaria personally. I have booked a week in Austria for much less than the cost of a week in Bulgaria was available this season, although I do appreciate that food and drink will cost more in Austria.

However, I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and I am quite happy to pay Austrian prices for high quality food and good beer.

I think the thing that really put me off was the promo DVD of Bansko I got at last years Daily Mail show, which pointed out: "Many famous peoples have been here, and played in the night clubs of Bansko, including THE WEATHER GIRLS...."

I rest my case.

Simple. Avoid it. There are far better places to go, and you can still do them on a budget!!!!

That place would cost me about £600 including lessons. Where else can I get that?

What dates are you looking at Iceman? Quite a few packages to the "big four" countries going for around £400 (inc. flights, accom. and food) on departures in the next couple of weeks.

It is not in next couple of weeks. It is departure 8/9 March for a week. 2 people with boarding lessons etc.

It has to be that week due to time off work etc.
