I used to think I was going to be OK with my Tracker - and the occasional practice seemed to confirm that. But last year I found a multiple burial simulation set up by an instructor gave a very confusing reading. A mate using a Pulse had no problems at all.

A lot of people appear to find the pulse is quicker and it's hard to know what to make of that. I don't find it a lot quicker than a tracker but I practise. There's a new tracker out this year (finally) which is also three antenna so people may find that quicker. I know from practise that if someone's quicker than me it's because they're more skilled and not because they've got a Pulse.

A lot has been written about multiple burials and there's some heated debate about just how common it is. From practise I'd say I'm a lot more concerned about deep burials where the victim is reoriented.

On a tangent, I've broken my Tracker. The battery door has broken around the thumbscrew after being screwed in and out a few times. I'd say it's got 250 days use. It's worth checking any regularly used tracker as it's a potentially a problem in case of burial as snow could get into the battery compartment.

what can I say? it's a hard life on the mountain with me  not everything can take the pace.

BCA's in-country agent has it for repair/replacement/inspection otherwise it's a new one I'm afraid.

I'd not been very impressed with the concept of the Pulse - effectively a sort of triage, going first to those still live. Sounds a good idea - but relies on the victims also having a Pulse. Tough luck if they don't. However, I was impressed with the speed at which one could follow the display to find multi-buried victims. The Tracker is a whole bunch better for a casual punter such as I finding a victim than relying on a simple analogue transceiver, though. I used to be rubbish with those.

I will try to get more practice in this season - but unless there is a resort-organized practice area, one is dependent on one's friends also wanting to practice - not always the case.

ise, please let us know how the BCA repair works out.

Actually I'm not hopeful, I was talking with them on the phone and they've run down down spares for the tracker 1 in preparation for the much delayed tracker 2. They seemed to suggest they had neither the spare part nor a replacement unit, in which case I'm not sure what they are proposing to do. I did suggest we'd switch to Pulses in preference so they might do some something imaginative with the tracker 2 for me.

As I suspected, it's not going to be repaired, they're going to overnight me a new one so I can stop using the old F1 I've had to fallback to all week.

Bummer..you get a whole new one :D

Fancy having to make do with the most widely used, utterly reliable analogue transceiver available....poor you

However did you cope?

I use one BTW :D

it's just arrived, brand new in a box. So, many thanks to BCA and their agent Gecko Supply for sorting that out speedily.

of course I can use any of them, but I chose to use to use a Tracker by way of a recommendation. An F1 still has about the greatest receive range though, maybe 30 metres greater than a Pulse or DTS
