And just how many of us have ever been in the world's top 20 at anything?
Let alone after effectively more than 2 years out with virtually no on slope training.

There's a quote, often used by Brian Moore (the former England rugby player)that one of his teachers said to him.

"There are those who try and perhaps fail and there are those that sit on the side and snigger. Which do you think are the more worthy?"

We should celebrate the end of the career of someone, but for injuries, could well have been a medal contender.

It was Chemmy's goal to return from a series of horrific injuries to ski at the Olympics. 19th might be nowhere in terms of the medals, but from a personal achievement it's massive and should be applauded as such.
Our alpine programme has no central funding, it's going to be many years before you see another UK skier matching that result.

You know what Snapzzz, it probably was a bit cruel. I guess I got a little annoyed especially after someone who had been through qualifying was removed to allow her to compete, because it was to be her last games. Surely we should be looking at bringing young talent through?

My son (8) is pretty keen on being a champion skier. :)

What would one have to do do get him as high in the rankings as Chemmy?

The British Ski and Snowboard Federation and the British Olympic Association had five places allocated at the Sochi Olympics but set the qualification criteria so high that these places were handed back to the organising committee. The fault lies there, not with Ms Alcott who did remarkably well considering that she had a broken leg when the season started and only raced for the first time a couple of weeks before the games. Apparently, there's a huge rumpus going on inside British ski racing circles and calls for the head men to resign etc etc!

Base yourselves in a ski resort, hire a world class coach and work very hard. Oh and fund it yourself.

Fund what, just the instruction fees?

The whole programme - and that's why Ms Alcott should be considered to have done well. No lottery funding, no backing from the federation, just self-generated sponsorship and self-funding. A disgrace, really!
