Nice report  Flaine's interesting architecture style is the result of the vision of a leading Bauhaus structural designer.

Good to read about it from the point of view of someone I have grown to feel as if I know and can trust (if you know what I mean). Honestly written and some lovely photos too.
I've flicked through WTSS and wizzed straight past the Flaine and Avoriaz chapters in the past. Mainly because I know people who said the skiing there is good but its hellishly busy and somewhat ugly. But like you I go somewhere to ski, so the "other bits" aren't that important.
I don't like apartments. I did them before in Val Thorens and vowed never to go into French apartments again. Tiny, smelly, dirty and a dreadful check in and out experience which was akin to a rugby scrum.
Interesting that you say you'd go back but stop elsewhere lower down probably. I know a lot of people who adore Samoens.
For me, I think theres a lot of other resorts I'd rather consider before Flaine, but if a really cheap deal came up I don't think I'd rule it out. I did see a catered chalet advertised for the end of Jan at £329pp all in but then our ADH del came up at only £20 more pp so for me it was a no brainer.
Thanks for taking the time to review the area. I am sure theres plenty more for you to say, but it certainly gives a decent overview of the place, and more importantly I'm pleased you got to get another week on your skis this season!
