Has anyone been to Pila?

My girlfriend quite likes the look of it and thinks it may appeal to her "timid intermediate" status - any thoughts anyone?

Thank you.

Just been looking at some info on Pila, and put it like this, its not on my wishlist.
I think you and I would have done it in 2 days max.

The question was "has anyone been" Tony!!

It may suit Hayley, in which case it is a consideration for she and I to go there. I realise it isn't for you.

If anyone HAS been, I would welcome their comments.

Once again, thank you.

skidaddle - you may find this thread helpful http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/1702.page

As you will see from the post, I have been there and would be happy to answer any specific questions you care to pose!

I hope I'm not going to cause offence here ;) but I had to laugh out loud when I read this! It kinda goes hand in hand with my post about ski ability - I (and many, many others) could ski every piste in Niederau before lunch on day one, but could I honestly say that I've "done" Niederau? That would be a definite "No" ...

I’d be interested to understand what you mean by “done”?

To me “done” suggests that there could be no circumstances under which I would not be able to execute a perfect 100% run in all conditions and using all techniques – I doubt I could claim this for even the gentlest beginner slopes here! But then perhaps I don’t fall into the “usual” category  and the basis I use is meaningless!

However, I do understand that there is always the challenge of “covering miles” when on holiday which does seem to be an important factor to many. I suspect you would certainly be able to ski all the pistes in Pila within 2 days but for me just skiing the Chamolé well in a whole week there would be a significant achievement!

As you will realise I have nothing to gain by recommending Pila but I would go there again at the drop of a hat – It’s a fantastic resort with some really challenging pistes and an “undiscovered” air that certainly makes it refreshing for an Italian resort!

I was merely commenting that it does not have much mileage, that was all. I appreciate that this is somewhere Skidaddle is thinking of taking his GF, which would probably be a good place for her to go to be honest, if you go by what most reviews of the place say.

Thanks Jan, that's really helpful.

I've looked at the resort details aagain and quite fancy it, contrary to what Tony weas suggesting. To "do" it all in two days would be a colossal effort and would mean skiing each slope only once. In fact I don't think it possible to cover all the terrain in two days. Its nice to stop, enjoy the surroundings and ski the best runs a few times anyway. Just my opinion.

You make an interesting point though and it sort of begs a question as to what is a skiing holiday about - the "skiing" bit anyway?

Do you look to cover every run, on the whole area pass? Do you head for your favourite slopes and ski them repeatedly? Do you just stay on piste?
et. etc.

Its potentially an interesting one.

The purpose of a trip to Pila would be for my gf to put her good technique
into practise and not worry about difficult reds and over-crowded slopes, which are a couple of stumbling blocks at present.
Although I am a much more experieinced and aggressive skier than her, it looks to have more than enough for me as well (especially under the circumstances of going more at her pace) and could therefore be an excellent choice for us both.
