Hi Everyone,
We (the wife and l) are popping out to Bour (village above bourg st maurice) on the 6th of Jan 2008, staying for 11 weeks. The plan is to do Les Arcs, La Plagne, 3 Valleys, Tigens, Val etc.
Can anyone offer us any tips, information, places to eat, drink and be merry etc. Any info on lift passes, other activites etc. in Bourg would be good. We are bringing the dog so does anyone have a vet thet would recommend? Is Bourg expensive? Is there a good swimming pool in the town? Would it be worth buying Pay as you go mobiles in france for the 11 weeks? Are they expensive?
Any info that may make our stay woudl be most welcome. also, if you are out there for the season and fancy hooking, let us know. We are OK skiers (about 20 years worth now). We are wanting to improve our off piste skills.

Hi John
I have stayed in Bourg St Maurice for a few days during the ski season and consider it to be a great little town that has a proper existence and good infrastructure.
As a tourist, I would say, it's got some decent supermarkets, where folks (including chalet operators) drive in from Km's around the valley, to do the shop up.
There are plenty of restaurants, memorable for me, are Bazoom, directly opposite the train station, and the Chinese Buffet, also in the same block, which was very good value. There are lots of bars, some are close to the funicular and a good place to stop off after a days' skiing.
It's a much cheaper place to eat and drink when compared to the Les Arcs resort prices.
Access to skiing is very easy if you have a car. Parking at the Funicular is free, and it only takes about 8 minutes up to Arc 1600. You can buy a Les Arcs Pass or a Paradiski, which will cover La Plagne as well. It's possible to upgrade the Arcs pass on a daily basis I think. This coming winter the ski pass "roaming" facility which exists around the Tarentaise will have a 10 Euro surcharge attached!
For phones, have you considered swopping your SIM card for a service like 0044.com, have a look at their prices and service levels. It is tempting to just buy a cheap PAYG in a supermarket though!
