Can anybody tell me what the quality is like of the ski stuff in Aldi. Its a quarter of the price at least and I am not sure if it means that the quality is not good. Things like thermals ski socks, microfleeces, polonecks, gloves, goggles, neckwarmers etc are so much cheaper. When you have not been skiing before you do not know what is ok and what is not.

I have read good anecdotal comments about the Aldi gear. I don't own any, which may be due to not having an Aldi anywhere nearby.

Thermals should be breathable, and have wicking properties to carry perspiration away from the skin. Look for the small print describing how the garment performs.

Ski socks, should be sock shaped, and have extra padding for the shin. Avoid "tube" shaped socks, they are not kind to your tootsies.

Microfleeces are multipurpose, and have mostly taken over from the "polo". Some cheaper fabrics do "pill", though are still great for layering. Again, the fleece layers need to work with the thermals and carry perspiration away, being soggy is not nice.

Goggles are important as they protect your eyes from the weather and the glare. Look for CE marked products and a "lens use" rating. My own preference is for Oakley goggles, as on overcast days they make everything seem brighter, and have good definition. :D

Gloves are important, I have had frostbite from buying cheap gloves, so I'm biased towards mainstream brands like Hestra, which keep my fingers nice and warm.
It's also worth looking in TK Maxx as they have lots of last years' ski clothing at very cheap prices.

Hi - Aldi stuff is OK & I use their running wear & have been happy with it. I bought a jacket & salopettes once for my little boy a few years ago & had to finish some of the stitching off & some of the velcro fasteners weren't stitched on very well. However, my little one was warm & dry all week (not sure how it would have stood up to wet conditions though). Friends bought it for their kids last year & the zip broke on the 7 yr olds jacket which was a major inconvenience.

Have a look at www.tchibo.co.uk they have ladies & children's ski wear on offer this week - mens will be soon. It's brilliant quality & very reasonably priced. Be quick though as they sell out of stuff. I've just received stuff for my 9 yr old & it's great. Also try TK Maxx & Decathlon.
The plan is.... there's no plan!

I bought a pair of Columbia ski trousers from TK Maxx. Much cheapness.

My mate Ninja Dave bought a pair of gloves from Lidl and they fell apart within 2 days of use.

However he also bought socks, a fleece, and thermals and all are still in use two seasons later.
