Having been all reved up by Pavel's tuning class I now face a dilema. We're skiing on the Tignes glacier in three weeks time and I can't decide how to wax my skis. Normally with glacier skiing (summer) you would expect the snow to get quite wet in the afternoon. I'm starting to think that by mid November it will be pretty much cold all day. Forcasts for the top have been in the -10's lately. At the moment I have some all round wax and some ultra hard (-16 to -20) wax which I use on the dryslope. It may be that I need to get some less extreme cold wax.

Anybody any thoughts or experiences of the temperature on the Grande Motte?

Unless we're in for another late start to the season, November on the Grande Motte is likely to be cold. The other possibility is that it will be C-O-L-D. Go for a cold wax, and pay attention to your clothing as much as your skis... 8)

The upper runs (anywhere above the funicular top station / restaurant) are very exposed to any wind that may be blowing. With luck the run down to Val Claret will be open by then though, and that's more sheltered.

From the latest GFS data; looks like a cold few days for the end of this month, then average temperatures (for the time of year) in the first week of November.

After that... looks a fair bit colder and maybe a wee bit of precipitation too...

It's going to be COLD...probably :D This means taking your best cold weather gear, thermals, face mask etc. Of course, that will mean that it will turn out warm and sunny
It can be very bleak up top, very exposed to the wind.

For the skis,, unless you are planning to rent a lane and run some gates, a Universal Wax, and a Zardoz Pocket Puck should see you through. Enjoy :D

This would be the least costly solution - I have both already!

Now if you could let me have that in writing... :D
