How much is the bet? Val Thoren opens 24th Nov. although I don't know if the link over to the 4th valley will open then so you may be right. I guess it will depend on snowfall. (TimBen is one person btw! I may have to change that username).

If you're in the Meribel Valley TimBen, it's a long drive around to VT until the links open, which may not be until Xmas week.

The hike up the LH glacier in VT so that you can ski off the back and down behind Mont Vallon all the way back to Meribel is superb, but you'll need a guide. There is some superb off piste around if you know where to look and who to go with!

I echo La Masse and Mont Vallon as having great runs.

Also the couloir on the Meribel side of the Saulire ridge is good, rather than doing the Courchevel couloirs. Is the ladder still there for access to Death Couloir?

La Masse!

A bit out of the way - but well worth it especially with good snow.

Yeah I know the drive well up to Val Thoren back thru Moutier ... it was half an hour in good summer weather! I will only be doing it if the snow and sun sound good on the day!

I am not quite sure if I am up for hiking to glacier skiing yet but hopefully by the end of the season.

And as for the Death Couloir! By the sounds of it you wouldn't catch me dead on it! But then again I have surprised myself a few times!

Thank's for the tips ... I am making a note of all the good suggestions.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Going the week before Christmas and now somewhat alarmed to hear that the link to Meribel might not be open. Does anyone have any firm info on this?
I'm happy to be going to VT as snow/forecast looks good but going to want to explore the whole area.

Everything is planned to be open by the 15th - but, of course, snow is needed for lower runs - or at least nice cold weather and snow cannons.

You should be fine .

Can't see any reason why Meribel shouldn't open as planned, decent dump of snow last week and more forecast his week. If the resort is open no reason not to open the links.
