Heads up;
2024 - most places in the Skiwelt will no longer accept card payment, they want cash only. Lots of places have cash machines outside, but the rate is not good. If you have a debit card that allows you to draw cash with no penalties you can get cash from official bank machines but most of them have a transaction fee of around 3 euros for any withdrawal.
I am told that the locals are fed up with the amount banks are charging when customers pay by card, so they are demanding cash to thwart the banks.
So, come prepared.

Interesting. We encountered this in a couple of mountain restaurants above Kaprun last winter. I assumed it was more to do with the usual reasons for taking payment in cash... are Austrian banks particularly greedy with card fees?

If the locals are to be believed, then yes it seems the alleged excessive Bank fees for card transactions are to blame.
