Took advantage of the knock-out season lift pass deal to enjoy a second trip of the season for the last week in Saas-Fee. It was distinctly odd, weather wise, with the complete mixture of four seasons in a day. Easter Monday was fine and surprisingly quiet on the slopes. Tuesday and Wednesday had windy rain in town, heavy snow from 2,4000 metres upwards and some great fresh snow skiing. But at 1.15 on Wednesday afternoon, the lifts started to close and the ski patrol ordered everyone off the hill. Only the nursery lifts remained open and this was the case on Thursday and Friday also. Great snow up the mountain but no way to get at it!

April weather LOTA! The snow that fell last week was accompanied by strong winds. There are some weather stations dotted around Saas Fee, unfortunately the anemometers at Mittelallalin and Längfluh went offline on Wednesday, on Thursday and Friday the one at Längfluh recorded gusts of over 100 km/h. It happens from time to time, especially in the afternoon, the wind here has a tendency to increase in the afternoon.
The this is the last season for the "knock-out season lift pass deal", it was a financial disaster. For the 2017/18 season the Saas Fee lift company recorded a record loss of over CHF 16 million, as you can imagine there is lots of talk about it in the village! Next season Saas Fee will be included on the Magic Pass.

From a personal point of view, the knock-out deal was anything but a financial disaster!!
