Snow cables???

Steel cables (funnily enough) rather than chains... supposedly a little easier to fit and are lower profile than chains - so not so much grip - and are mostly used where there's limited clearance in the wheel arch.
I don't think I've ever actually seen any on the road though!
Chains are really easy to put on in the garage with the light on. It always becomes more fun by the side of the road with cold fingers and fading light. After struggling with this once I now carry old gloves for that job - and a head torch!!!

Just reading the snow report for ADH and it's saying that on the roads chains or snow cables may be required. What on earth are snow cables? Is it a big winch at the top of the hill where you get dragged up?!

I think they might be those plastic things that you attach to the wheels

I did think about buying some as they look way easier than chains to put on ..but then I have never needed the chains
