I always ski down the fall line and use "hockey" stops...I just thought that was what you did... the idea is to go straight down as fast as you dare...but then I do ski like Desperate Dan :oops:

Depends what you want to do, for me the idea is to go down under control picking my speed and line myself with a fairly constant speed being my preference, a nice turn shape carved out means you're not needing to dump speed with the drama and exertion of hockey stopping. Not that there's anything wrong with hockey stopping, or better called speed checking in this context, it's one of a range of techniques you're going to want to have available to deal with different slopes.
