Hi
I'm going on a bit of a road trip in the middle of march and am looking for some route help.

My current plan is Calgary -> Banff (Sunshine) -> Lake Louise -> Kicking Horse -> Revelstoke -> Whistler -> Vancouver

This is my first time skiing in North America and want too know if im missing any good resorts or if my route isn't very good, i am a good skier and am mainly looking for powder resorts

Thanks for any help

Your route makes sense, what are your goals? You will find better skiing of you stay away from where all the tourist go. On a powder day,Sunshine village is so busy, good luck getting fresh tracks after about 10 am. If I were planning a trip for myself ( I live in Alberta), Keep Revy and Kicking Horse, consider Fernie and Castle mountain resort instead of Sunshine and Lake Louise. If you do decide to go to Sunshine a do want to get into delirium dive or decide to do some cat skiing, a transceiver, shovel and probes are required .

If I may add, don't forget the powder highway, Red Mt and Whitewater are absolute musts. Sometimes they have they best snow and Nelson is a pretty cool town. You also have to drive through the Okanagon and Big White will have fresh snow all the time, if its not a blizzard its a good spot too. You pass these resorts on your way to Vancover you might as well stop.

Guess I owe you a reality check. The snowpack in the South Rockies this year is way down from normal. Not only that, forecast is for very warm temps, which will just make it worse. Forget what I said, the mountain parks ( lakeLouise, Sunshine) will at least have snow later in the season. Also, "On edges" is spot on. Better advice than mine for this season.

I would skip Fernie just because of geographic location compared to your other destinations, 4 hour drive south and across the flat prairies, then 3 hours north and back east to Sunshine then north to LL then back west to Kicking Horse.
But, if Fernie is getting snow..Fernie gets big snow and its a high steep mountain if thats what your looking for.
After Sunshine,LL, Kicking horse comes Revelstoke but after that instead of heading west through Kamloops go south across the ferries Arrow Lakes to Nelson, ski whitewater for sure then travel an hour to Rossland to ski Red Mountain. These are excellent resorts especially if your a good skier you'll find every thing your looking for and then some.
After leaving Rossland drive to Kelowna in the Okanagon Valley and ski Big White and then if your a good driver and the weather is clear ( check BC highways report online) drive to Lilloet and take the Duffy Highway down to Whistler. This will save you time and not having to go through Vancouver is great. This road is steep sometimes without guard rails, and could be closed for avalanches but it has stunning scenery and if you ski tour this is the place. If your a nervous drive please stay on Hwy 1.

Came across this vid on YouTube, really goes along with the comments made by "On Edges". I think it really captures the look and feel of Canadian Small Market resorts. My original comment was to avoid the large "tourist trap" resorts in favor of where the locals would prefer to spend their money. I spend my weekends at Castle mostly, so most of this really rings very true BIG LINES, SMALL CROWDS. We have Avalanche shoots that have 2000+ foot single fall line skiing where on a Powder day you can lay down tracks until the lift closes.

Ski_more, if you are still with us, take from the Vid the locations and experiences available at these big areas with small markets. Also, don't get hung up on the extreme nature of the skiing/riding, you don't have to perform at that level to have fun, Most resorts locals produce very good skiers, the guys in this film are the best.

You Will have fun no matter what your level is!

We are doing pretty much that trip the other way around, visiting a friend who works doing avalanche control in whistler for 4 days driving then to sun peaks for 2 days then revelstock for 2 days banff and Lake Louise for the day then into calgary for the flames vthe jets before heading home the next day can't wait for Saturday to arrive! Only thing is whistler seems very warm and wet, it will be great to catch up with my friend before heading East for the powder

Mattski, I was looking over your itinary and notices in your geographic descriptions you will be driving the Duffy Hwy which is exciting. While in Liloet, go north 15 minutes to the town of Pavllion then look back towards Lilloet, you'll understand.
I also noticed you are driving right through Golden and not skiing Kicking Horse. If it was me and you are a good skier, forget Sun Peaks and ski KH. KH is one of the wildest hills in NA and will generally have better snow than Revy in an off year.
If the Duffy Hwy Is closed for snow control on your departure day you have to south from Whistler through Vancouver and could come into the Okanagon via the Cocahalla hwy and follow the southern trans Canada hwy to Rossland then Nelson then north to Rev then Golden LL SS to Cowtown. This is the skiers route...
And a good old hockey game to boot, they are always a good time and exciting.
