Anyone out there stayed in Alpe d'Huez reasonably cheap accommodation, been on some hotel sights and it keeps giving me a lot of hotels outside of the resort, never been there so need all the help I can get about where to stay I want to be close to slopes and restaurants etc. just basic accommodation is fine !

I just got back from a superb week with my school kids on a trip.
We stayed at the belle aurora. A ski bound hotel which I'm fairly sure would be at the cheaper end of things. Very close to two lifts that take you up to the main basin.
Faulous area. I got to ski with the more advanced group so skied lots of off piste all week!

Apologies to NIIIXSY for hitchiking on the topic, but: anyone have experience with the Hotel Le Castillan? I'm booked there in three weeks :)

I went for the second time last season and stayed in this hotel:

Location was fantastic, 2 min walk to lifts and ski hire shop if you need it. Supermarket within 5 min walk. The only downside was that it is in a quiet part to town so to get to the bars etc was about a 15 min walk, which seems a lot longer when its -10C

Forgot to mention. First time i satyed was in a small village called Os En Osians which was fantastic. No matter on where you stayed the lift was max 10 min walk. Beautiful village and great bar for drinks.
