Does anyone know what Argentiere town is like and the Apres Ski there?

Quite quiet apres ski but great ski location with the fabulous Grand Montets ski area within walking distance. For night life we would drive down to Chamonix for the evening.

The ski bus service is very good in the Chamonix valley as there are basically 4 completely seperate ski areas. I am not sure how good it is late evening.

You really should try and go up to the Aiguille De Midi from on the cable car from Chamonix. It's one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. And if you're a decent intermediate skier you can ski the Vallee Blanche (with a guide if it's open) from the A. De Midi; it's probably the most amazing easily accessable off piste run in the world. It's up to 22km long I believe.

There are bars and restaurants in Argentiere and don't worry you're going to a great place.

This page has a pdf link at the bottom. It's the ChamoNuit service. The timetable is out of date, so check for an update.

Any recommendations for good winter sports shops in Argentiere/Chamonix Centre?

There's plenty to choose from in both towns and as with all top resorts they are all very good. And pricey! We always used a good one half way up the Argentiere main road on the right walking up ... sorry I forget it's name.

If you are driving there is a good store in Sallanches which is maybe 25 min away.
