Snowboarding in Zermatt

I am going to be visiting Italy/Switzerland during the last 2 weeks of october. I am planning on going into Zermatt from Torino. I was hoping to be able to snowboard for a day or two in Zermatt. Is it possible to snowboard at the end of oct? How easy is it to rent a board and boots?

You should be able to rent equipment in a village.

Don't under any circumstances leave the marked runs. There a lots of crevasses that are only covered by a thin layer snow at that time of year. Only a few weeks ago a lone boarder fell in one, he was reported missing when he didn't return the board to the hire shop. Zermatt is open all year round, except for bad weather. There should be plenty of places to rent stuff. As said by SwingBeep be really careful with going off-piste, glaciers are quite dangerous off-season outside of the marked slopes
