Alpe d' Huez - lunch stops

Ok, so I visited here last in Jan 2010, and I'm looking for someone who has been recently (Snapzz maybe...) who can recommend spots to stop for a reasonably priced lunch. We dont do big meals at lunch, so somewhere you can get a spag bol, pizza or bolw of soup would be fine.

I know theres the cracking place up at Alpette where the cable car comes in, but that was pricey so maybe one or two visits during the week.

I seem to remember using the Rocket Ski hotel by the DMC base station, Hotel Beau Soleil I think it was.....cheap, lively, and free water as well as being easy to get to.

However, any other suggestions would be greatly welcomed, along with suggestions for a decent place to eat on the night the chalet throw us out for dinner?

Well to be honest mate we don't really do those big lunch stops, if i eat too much at mid day i find it just slows me down in the PM so i don't think i can comment really.
The only places we did go to were Le Tremplin in Les bergers right at the bottom of the Romains chair. But it gets VERY busy at lunch so get there early, the food was nice from what i saw of it but we just bought paninis and baguettes from the hut attached to the restaurant and sat in the deck chairs with a beer or two.
And we only ate out once in the eve as we were half board - we went to Pinocios Italian on the main street which was very nice but very small so again you need to get that early or book.

If we hadn't have had my little girl with us then i definitely would have eaten in Le Sporting next to the ice rink as the place looked really nice. It has two sides, bar and restaurant.....Bar was nice for apres...

Ps.. on a tour around we saw some beautiful places down the bottom end of the village, around the base of the bucket lifts....might be a bit of a trek for you though.

What about over the Auris side? I remember a little cabin near the bottom of the main slopes heading back (near the 'scary' lift). Nice deck-chairs if the weather's good...

Or the other one I remember is right at the bottom valley after Sarenne. By Chalvet chair (just had to look that up). Just remember needing to tuck and let it run fast before the bridge (way back up the valley) to make it without poleing the last section.

("reasonably priced" is relative of course for Alpe d'Huez)

Oh ok, i thought you were back up Les Bergers again....whats the hotel?

That bucket lift is so gonna piss you off. If i were you i would use the Grande Sure chair to the top of Signal each day. The buckets are slow down every min to allow people on and off..

Mariandre. Right next to the Tourist Info and bucket lift I am told. Theres supposed to be a green or blue that you can take right back to the door as well.

I just saw a pic of it....it is in the same block as the bucket lift...BUT..That bucket lift is so gonna piss you off. If i were you i would use the Grande Sure chair to the top of Signal each day or take the Eclose and bergers chairs to Les bergers. The buckets slow down every min to allow people on and off..

The green runs through the village to the bucket lift so yes you can ski back.

This pic i took shows the back of your building, you can see the bucket lift station and the piste leading to it. The largest building in the pic is your block. You are on the far right.

I actually had no intention of using it, having heard reports of it from others. Might be better to walk 5 mins to that chair, or across to the bottom nearer the Romains chair.
