Hi,
Im booked to go to Isola 2000 in Southern French Alps on Saturday. Problem is not much snow with non forecast over next 7 days. I can change my booking tomorrow and go to Les Deux Alpes on Saturday for an extra £150. However as I'm never been before and have done no research I know nothing about this area.
One good thing looks like there is plenty of snow.
Any comments on the resort and skiing are much appreciated as I need to decide tommorrow.
What do you reckon Isola (and potentially little snow)or Les Deux Alpes (and less to spend)?
Thanks

Unless you love cruising in sunshine (and some people do), then switch.
LDA is a big ski area with some superb and accessible off-piste - though do take local advice and/or a guide as some of it is going to be dangerous for a while yet; a guide will also help you find the best spots.
La Grave is a possible day trip but don't even think about doing that without a guide - and probably rent an airbag if you do.
Make that call!

What to you call 'not much snow'? Are all the lifts open? Are the temperatures average for winter?
Not been to 2A so I can't comment but hopefully you will get an answer soon.

Hey Nelly,
Skied Isola for a week a couple of years ago and it only has 43 runs when fully open (small and very quiet resort but enjoyable with lots of snow). Current snow levels say 60/30 with approx 70% open but looking at webcams over last few days you can see some of the runs disintergrating.Bright blue skys and sunshine forecast for next seven days last snowfall 5cm on 05/01 and not a great deal prior to that
Just not sure what to do really. Last trip was Jan 2010 next will probably be Jan 2014!

I've spent a week in L2A, and it's a really good resort when there's plenty of snow. There's a slightly annoying plateau in the middle of the mountain, but that doesn't really matter if you're skiing (as opposed to snowboarding). I would say go for it.

I have never been to Isola 2000, but i do know it's pretty
small when compared to L2A which, as you say has much more snow than Isola 2000.
Having been to L2A a couple of times I would say switch. It is a fantastic ski area which has lots to offer! Also included on your L2A ski pass is one day to Alpe D'Huez and another to Serre Chevalier. From memory you can get a helicopter from L2A to Alpe D'Huez for 65 Euros return and a coach to Serre Chevalier for 25 Euros return. I did both trips when i was in L2A and they were fantastic!
Hope this helps! :D

Mate of mine skied Isola 2 seasons ago, said he'd never go back as it was too small and restrictive for him, and that the place was soul less.
bearing in mind conditions might not be great for you, Its a no brainer. Change now. L2A is a well reputed resort with good extent of pistes, and as others have pointed out includes other great resorts in the lift pass.
Question; what made you book Isola in the first place?
