Drag lifts (skiers, not boarders)

Be sarcastic if you must. I am talking about up in the mountains miles away from a hospital and having to speak to foreign doctors. Sorry, I do not mean to offend anyone,it is only MHO but it is something I feel very strongly about. It's scarey enough if your child takes badly ill at home and babies can fall very ill very quickly.
Anyone have some advice......?

strange last post.

In reply to Ian Wickham, I always kept my kids between hubby and me and have nagged and nagged them about piste safety. However they are now MILES better than us and we hold them back! For the last 2 yrs I have allowed them to go in front of us. (They are, however, now 17 and 13) This yr for the first time I allowed them to go up to the top together and come down, without us when we were just knackered at the end of the day. They were given strict instructions to stay together, be careful, keep a constant look out for "idiots" and if one fell and was injured, they were to call someone over to stay with the injured party while the other one skied very slowly down to inform us. I have NEVER let them do that, but in fairness they enjoyed far better skiing this yr as I gave them more freedom. (They both wear helmets and have never moaned or questioned it, the same when cycling)

I would also be safer if I went "skiing" on a computer game and never left the house, but that's my choice.

Yeah but you'd probably die of obesity and myocardial infarction by you're 50!

Ah, were they your OWN skis then Tspill? I always hire and if they're then taken back to the hire shop they'll have my serial no: on. I do always sit outside with my skis by me when eating anyway

verbier_ski_bum wrote:If a collision on piste is such that it can give you a life-threatening injury helmets will hardly change anything, so in this respect there is a danger that helmets will give people a false sence of security where they shouldn't have it. nothing can replace the awareness about skiers'immediate environment.

Yes I agree and the same can be said about motorcyclists in high speed crashes but it still makes sense for them to wear one.
I wish there were "piste police" giving out fixed penalty notices to idiots myself. That'd sort them out!
