With respect - i think YOU have to try the skiis to be sure of the answer to this (I realise this means delaying the purchase...I guess this depends on how long you think you might stick with a pair of skiis).
for example - I tried the tornados, for a week, in Feb. I didn't overly like them. I found they chattered in long turns, I tried a longer length and they still chattered, but at a higher speed.
In April my OH had Bandits (recommended by hire shop) and was finding it hard going in the slush, swapping to K2 Apache (which the hire shop said was the wrong decision as they are a bit stiffer) improved her skiing (in these conditions) no end..
the point I'm making (but maybe not too well) is that you can read all you like, but really have to try the things for yourself to really know.

ouch ! I guess there's another thread somewhere on insurance.. would be interesting to hear the good/bad/ugly of insurance claims this season... i'm sure most of us base our decision mainly on price as it's difficult to find out which companies are reticent in paying out
The Ski Helmet Debate

I've a GIRO .. glad it's not in that state..at least your mate is able to claim on his insurance and fill the form in himself. I can recount at least 3 other personal tales where a helmet has prevented injury (not possible to tell how bad they would have been),,nothing quite on this scale though. yeah - I skiied for years without one... but telling my kids they had to wear theirs seemed a bit hypocritical..that's the only reason I decided to buy.. but it's like wearing a seatbelt..seems strange when you haven't got it on.
but... i don't think it sould be compulsory !!

i'd say keep the bindings but chuck the rest..if you're getting a similar type of replacement then why would you want to keep them ?
Morzine at 1/2 term?

Frostbite, My info is a few years out of date (2003), but in case it's of use...

If you can drive or minibus to the Ardent area and get a gondola up this will save on queuing in Morzine and Avoriaz. There's also a ski school meet at the top of this lift. We stayed in a chalet where they didn't bump up the prices for 1/2 term (different story with the travel costs I guess).. we didn't go at 1/2 term so don't know first hand about how busy it might get, had no issues with snow cover (luck of the draw ?) and personally I thought it an excellent ski area.
Summer Dry Slope Skiing - clothing

domes - can get cold if the queue for the lift builds (eg if maintaining a lift). i go for Salopettes and a thick fleece instead of a jacket (as don't need all the pockets)..kids can get a bit cold
dry slope. track suit bottoms / old jeans. long sleeved T + gardening gloves or old gloves.. don't wear anything decent as it can get destroyed if you take a big tumble.
