Will I Get Bored in Niederau?
Started by User in Austria, 19 Replies
Thanks Tony_H I will check out those other areas. I'll also try and hold my nerve for a while longer. Last year I got 7 days, half board in Scheffau, 2nd week in Jan with flights from Cardiff for just £250 per person! I'm not expecting that kind of luck again but something near that would be awesome.

Thanks folks. Top advice once again!

Will I Get Bored in Niederau?

I'm going to grab a last minute deal to Austria in Jan with my lovely wife, her mum and mum's boyfriend. Everyone loves Skiwelt because we can ski from 8am-4pm without stopping or getting a bus and without skiing the same slope twice.

Looking through the deals thought I've seen some cracking offers in Nierderau. Having never been there I'm wondering if we will get a bit bored given that the Wildschonau is not interconnected and you have to get busses between the villages.

Any thoughts? If there is already a topic about this please let me know.

Thanks!

Which bit, the torrential rain, howling winds or freezing cold? ;-)

Ok well I'll assume you're a highly qualified meteorologist and started getting excited. I just needed someone to tell me it was all going to be ok. Yay!
Here are the El Nino years and their intesity:

I've only been skiing for 3 seasons and one of those was Romania so don't have enough knowledge to know good or bad years.

I'm trying not to get paranoid but I'm planning on going to Scheffau, Austria in January which is not very high. Do any of you hardcore weather geeks know if it being an El Nino year will affect the snow? I tried googling but I got totally bamboozled with science.

Thanks!

You'll definitely be able to ski by the end. The first few days can be a bit challenging but once you get going you'll be hooked.

Awesome!

Well assuming you've got jackets, trousers, gloves, goggles, hats etc?

I'd reccomend spending some money on some decent ski socks and some kind of blister treatment. I got corking blisters the first time I went because I did not have proper socks. Take some sun block and something for your lips too.

Also think about taking some base layers. Manmade, breathable fibre, lightweight tops. If you're learning then you'll be spending some time on the lower slopes alternating between lots of physical exertion and standing around so you need to be able to regulate your own body temperature. Cotton tops and t-shirts will soak up the sweat then might get really cold.

I bet everyone else has loads of other tips.
