Thanks very much Dan. Does the lack of sunlight put you off at all or are the Northern Lights a good enough reason?

Hiya,

I am thinking about Finland (Yllas) in a couple of weeks. Mrs Smoothie and I have got a bit rusty so are going back to ski-school. I like the idea of gentle, wide pistes with the bonus of Northern Lights and other arctic activities.

It looks like the resorts don't really open fully until later in the year and it's only light for 4 hours a day. Does anyone have any experience or know if all the slopes will be open in mid Jan?

Cheers!

Steve
1 Day Private Tuition or 3 Days Ski School
Started by Stevesmoothie in Ski Technique, 6 Replies
Hi All,

I appreciate this is a old question but I have a variation. Mrs Smoothie and I are intermediate skiers with 15 weeks over 12 years experience. Every couple of years we splash out on a couple of hours private tuition to keep things sharp.

This year I have a limited budget and am trying to decide which is best. 1 day (4 hours) of private tuition for the two of us or 3 days (4 hours per day) of ski school.

Ski school looks tempting because it means a solid 3 days of drills, skills, and learning.

Any tips, thoughts, suggestions etc?

Cheers!

Steve

Morning all.

My wife and I have been skiing 10 times now. We always rent our gear because it's just less hassle than trying to buy stuff at home. We're not the best skiers but can manage the odd black and can get to the bottom of the hill without any problems.

Kate has always complained that her heels can move up and down in her ski boots which she says makes her feel unstable. Personally I think it's because she sticks her bum out which stops her leaning forward too much but I daren't say that! She says it's because she has very narrow ankles which in fairness she does.

So in an impulsive gesture I've said we'll get her some new boots this year. I had thought to buy them in resort. We're going to Soll, Austria on 19th Jan and we like the guys in Snow and Fun there so thought to do that. Do you think this would resolve the problem and am I crazy for buying boots in resort? It's the only way she'll be able to try them out so I can't see any alternative.

Any thoughts or advice from the experts would be much appreciated and sorry for rambling on.

Yes! Great news SnowLily! This is going to be longest day in work ever. I plan to spend most of the day hitting refresh on the webcam pages :-)
