Please can we get back to obsessing about the weather in Austria rather than the price of beer in France. I'll be landing in Salzburg in 48hours and am freaking out about the lack of snow!

Yes we were there 3 years ago too and had a fantastic time! Look out for me, I'll be wearing a helmet and goggles ;-)

I'm going to Soll on Saturday and I've started to drive myself insane my constantly checking the webcams and weather forecasts as if I can actually do anything about it. I've skied in crappy conditions before and there's still more snow and slopes than in Cardiff so I'm sure I'll have an awesome time. Plus I love strudel.

I'm off to Skiwelt too and yes was there 3 years ago! I seem to remember it was like skiing through fishmonger's ice! Still an awesome holiday though. Better to ski in slush than not ski at all.

So in the event of an accident do the medical staff in ski countries routinely test for alcohol or just if they suspect someone involved in the accident is pissed? I do like a small beer at lunchtime sometimes and I don't want to get breathalised if some other muppet crashes in to me!

Morning!
Only 17 sleeps until Mrs Smoothie and I head out to Soll, Austria. We've been skiing for a few years but want to improve. I was hoping to pay for some private lessons this year but Christmas has cleaned me out. This guy has an app which has basic tips and lessons which you can download to your smart phone. I checked some of his Youtube vids and was actually quite impressed. While not as good as the real thing I though I'd get the app and maybe tackle one lesson each day, practicing whatever move it is throughout that day to slowly improve over the week. I'd be interested to know what some of the more experienced skiiers think of the videos that are on Youtube and whether it's actually beneficial to improve via videos? http://www.youtube.com/user/elatemedia?feature=watch Cheers! That was in Val Thorens a few years ago. It was enough to put me off for life, plus that and Mrs Smoothie refuses to fly to French airports after a horrendous departure from Grenoble (same trip). Never been to St Anton but now I know the beer price I don't think I'll bother ;-)

France 8 euros for a beer. Austria 4 euros for a beer. That is all.
