Sparkly Air.

It's been like it for a while here, my oh says the moisture in the air is frozen. A young child last week described it as "Glitter falling out of the sky." I like that description best.

AllyG wrote:There are lots of things I hate about ski-ing

1. Worrying I'm going to get ill or hurt myself so I won't be able to go.

2. Trying to get all the work done at home so that I can get away for a week.

3. Trying to earn enough money so that I can afford the ski holiday. The last couple of ski holidays have cost me about £1100 per head including transport, accommodation, ski hire, lift passes, and lessons.

4. Worrying I've forgotten some vital piece of paper - like my insurance details or the receipt for the lift passes, or that my passport has gone out of date and I haven't noticed.

5. Worrying that something has gone wrong with the booking system and when I get there they won't have an apartment for us.

6. Worrying that I've forgotten how to ski and I'm going to get chucked out of my lessons and put in the beginners classes.

7. Worrying that one of us is going to get lost or hurt on the mountain.

8. Worrying that my glasses are going to steam up and I won't be able to see where I'm going.

9. Worrying that I'm going to be too fat to get my salopettes on.

10. Worrying that I'm going to make a mess of getting off the chair lift and knock the other 5 people on the chair lift over.

11. Worrying that there will be loads of snow and I'm going to have to ski in deep powder and I'll fall over and get lost/hurt/look a total idiot.

In fact - looking at that long list I don't think I'm going to bother booking another ski holiday

Not a huge ski area and resort, good if you are looking for peace and quiet.

On piste skiing is more suited to beginners/intermediates and but there is plenty of off piste skiing to be had. It is pretty snowsure at 2800m. Snow is good from December to April because of north facing slopes. I went at Easter time and the snow was good.

To be honest I wouldn't go back there, apres ski was almost non existent (or perhaps we didn't look hard enough) but we made the most of it and had a good time anyway.

I know nothing about Termignon, we stayed in Lanslebourg or Lanslevillard I can't remember.

But Italian salami knocks spots off it .....

What? Are you saying french saucisson has spots?

...I am suddenly reminded of that traditional british sponge pudding with sultanas.

Weekend Ski

I did a ski weekend a couple of years ago to ADH. I had to DIY it all but it worked out very reasonable.

Pierre et Vancances I seem to remember, it was a million miles away from luxury but it was very cheap and bookable by the day not week.

I vaguely remember looking for accommodation and finding it difficult to book anything for a long weekend.

You could also try the Snowcoach Friday to Monday:

They are cured meat so they do not need cooking. They have an incredibly long shelf life, which stems back to before fridges had been invented and the need to preserve meat.

Just slice it up and enjoy with some fresh bread and cheese...Oh and don't forget the wine!
I still had that feeling in April lasy year after a 5 month ski trip...It's an illness I'm sure.

Before that I always made myself feel better by booking the next one. One ski holiday a year very quickly turned into two and then three and then 4! You know what happened after that...Complete mid life crisis or as I prefer to put it 'lifestyle change'.

Chin up...There is plenty of research for you to do before you can decide where you will go next time, that should keep you happy for a bit!
