I've been skiing twice now. Both time to Passo Tonale. I have travelled independently to Bergamo with Ryanair. I am looking for a new resort this year. I can fly into Turin or Bergamo and dont' mind a transfer of upto 3 hours. Can anyone recommend a scenic resort for an improving skier. Price is important too, Passo Tonale was good for that. the 2 main costs being accomodation/lessons/skipass. I plan to go maybe the week before Christmas week so a resort at higher altitude maybe desirable.

I will be there all next week so can report back on conditions. Where did you hear about 50cm of cnow falling!!!

Where are the best conditions reasonably close to Milan (Bergamo). I'm thinking of heading to Passo Tonale, since its high up shouldn't it be the best of a bad lot or would Livigno or Madonna di Campiglio be better options?

well there definitely isn't as much as last year, check out the webcams on the passo tonale site
also see http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/1559.page Can anyones tell me is Passo Tonale the best option for snow flying into Bergamo? |
interesting downside of it all!!
I'm thinking of a self organised trip there maybe end of Feb because it is probably one of the cheaper resorts. |
yeah sounds like a plan, i've nothing to lose anyway i suppose. I'll wait and see if the snow comes if it does i'll grab some accomodation if not i'll cancel the flights.
I'm dreaming of a white December. I hope you get your snow too! |
Hey thanks for being honest! At the moment all i've booked were flights and was about to book my hotel in Passo Tonale but after reading that it sounds like I should just cut my loses on the flight and forget about Italy???

I've booked flights to Bergamo for the 2nd week in December(9th - 15th) but I've just been onto the tourist office in Passo Tonale and they've told me they are having unusually good weather, theres no snow and its too warm to use snow machines. My trip is only 2.5 weeks away do you think thats enough time for the situation to change?? I thought Passo Tonale would be my best option for early season or is there a better resort option from Bergamo.
(I was skiing in Passo Tonale back in March and had a great time) |
