Just returned from St Anton and the advice was spot on. I had group improver lessons for three days and the instructor took us on progressively more difficult runs in St Anton, Lech and finishing with an icy R1 at Rendl, which really set me up to take on any reds in the area. Beautiful area for skiing at my level, very quiet around Lech and Rendl, often had the outlying runs to ourselves.
Staggeringly expensive - 5 euros for half litre or bottle of beer - but at my age I was there for the skiing, not apres-ski so was not that bothered.
Innsbruck Airport.

Went through Innsbruck on 25th January on the way to St Anton. Airport was fogbound (low cloud) and we circled for 45 minutes, when the pilot informed us that air traffic control had told him there was a clearance and he would 'give it a go'. We dropped into cloud, couldn't see a thing out of the windows, and nor could the pilot, because pretty low to the ground he full throttled back, and we climbed to 13,000 feet and flew on to Munich to refuel and give it another go, which was ok. Innsbruck is a typical alpine airport, pretty small but transfer through was quick and eficient.
I am off to St Anton in a couple of weeks with SkiWorld. I have skied for the last two years and will be seeking a ski school to help improve my technique and act as a guide to slopes within my capability. Any thoughts on the 'SkiWorld' linked schools or any others recommended that I can book on line.
burning thighs after about 30 to 40 mins of skiing

Old age b******s, I reckon its fitness and weight I am 61 and fairly fit - still play 5 a side football for an hour every week. I skied for the first time 2 years ago so probably not thrashing it as much as Bignick, but I spend around 6 hours a day on the slopes and never get a twinge in the thighs. Apart from my footie I also go to the gym 2 or 3 days a week, concentrating on knees and thigh strength.
Has Setanta reached St Anton

We will be arriving in St Anton early afternoon next Sunday 25th January and are anxious to find a bar showing the Everton/Liverpool game. Has Setanta reached St Anton and can anybody recommend a bar likely to be showing the match.
Thanks guys, comments much appreciated - very useful advice and I feel much more comfortable that I will be able to find runs within my capabilities. I intend booking classes for the first 2 or 3 mornings so that I can rebuild my confidence and be guided to areas within my limits, afternoons head for Rendl and towards the end of the week hop on an early bus for the Lech and Zurs area.
beginner skiing in La Plagne

I had my first skiing holiday 2 years ago, in La Plagne, as a 60th birthday 'bucket list' present to myself, and I am hooked.
We went in March and I had morning lessons only.
There is an easy 'green' run in La Plagne centre 400 metres from the nursery slopes, to practice alone for the first couple of days and by the second day our instructor had taken us further up the mountain on steady blue runs which are easily accessible.
We went in March 2007, it was sunny on 5 days, and I wore just salopettes on the legs (no long thermals) and only a thermal top under my ski jacket.
I am 61 and 'found' sking just 2 years ago - went to La Plagne and then Meribel last year.
No friends of my age ski so I am tagging along to St Anton with a group of experienced young skiers but reports suggest that the slopes may be a little sharp for my level - any thoughts or advice would be welcome
