Sölden & Hochgurgl/Obergurgl

I was in Solden in January - my pre-booked pass (via Neilsons) included one day in Obergurgl, but if you buy your pass in the resort, as Betty mentioned, its an extra 10 euros for a day that has to be paid up front.

Obergurgl is 9 kms from Solden and there is an hourly bus service.

If you want a review Tony, I will try to knock one up over the next few days.

I thought I was beginning to understand some of the technical issues around skis, bindings, boots etc, then somebody talks about 87 degree edges on skis, de-tuning boards and I just bury my head in my hands in despair - I know nothing !

Poiana Brasov
The purpose built ski resort of Poiana Brasov has long been a staple of the UK holiday brochures, attracting a strange breed of curious skier on a budget for the best part of 30 years. Today its charms are less obvious. Prices are now relatively high and while new hotels have been built at a rate unlike anywhere else in the country - increasing the resort's capacity four times over – very little has been spent on improving what was always a very limited ski area. Queues for cable cars during the ski season can be long - at weekends over two hours – and the four or five pistes very crowded.

The latest Ski Club reports are for just 10cms on the lower slopes and 20cms on the upper
Is 65 too old to try skiing?

Skiing down gentle green or blue beginner slopes is not particularly physically demanding - but I would say your parents need to be reasonably fit - probably the hardest physical part of beginner skiing is getting back on your feet after a fall and they need enough strength to be able to achieve that.

I had my first ski trip 3 years ago at 59 and am now obsessed - but I was still playing football every week.

Cross country skiing sounds a better option, but probably only if they do a fair amount of walking.

Brilliant write up and well laid out - covers just about everything we need to know.

Can we have some more resorts in the same style/format please ?
