Had a day at Serre Chevalier around April 16/17th in 2003.
We had to catch a gondola down to the village (I think Villeneuve) but up on the mountains snow was fantastic still. |

My son off to Germany (Bavaria) at half term with Air Cadets.
Part of the programme is half a day on blades. The chap who teaches them was very enthusiastic about how much fun they are and says they are great for getting beginners to carve. We'll see what my son has to say about them when he gets back. Interested to know what the skiing is like where he's going. They don't stay in a resort, but check out resort conditions and ability of their different groups the night before and go to different places. My daughter is learning to snowboard in April and she's already been warned about sitting down in ridiculous places! |

Hi,
I've never been, but if you do a search on Neiderau (on this forum) you'll find lots of discussion over the years. It's somewhere that seems to get lots of mentions. |

Hi Daved,
How are you finding the new chair from Samoens 1600 or not tried it yet? We were wondering if although it saves time to Tete De Saix it will be a pain, in that it increases traffic on the higher slopes as there is no longer a half way point - or is there? Have a great rest of week. |

Agree with Tony With ref to my post about reductions in Les Saisies I've been at Easter many times and last year was the only time we've had a reduction. I was wary of going to Les Saisies at that time, and although it was great we're going to the Grand Massif again this time as we've never had an issue with snow. Same with the 3 Valleys. |

Last year our lift passes were reduced at Les Saisies as Praz sur Arly and lower parts of Noredame De Bellecote were closed. This was at the later end of the season - 1st week in April.
There was still plenty of skiing so we thought we were pretty lucky. Not sure if that's normal all over France though. |

Agree with seeking advice from doctor, they may not say what you want to hear, but best to ask.
Last year my daughter sprained her wrist (not the same as a break I know) 2 or 3 days before we went and I was also in a dilemma. We bought a really good wrist support and although poling was a bit painful for the 1st day or so she was fine and forgot about it pretty quickly. So it clearly was not as bad a sprain as we initially thought. I broke my wrist a few years ago and could not believe how strong my wrist was when the plaster was taken off. Kids mend quickly - don't they? It might be more of a problem if he were a beginner, but hopefully he'll be aware of his capabilities |

I've been to Claviere. March 2004. With Equity ski, stayed in Passero Pellegrino Hotel.
It's a nice resort, not too far from Turin. The border to France is right at the end of the village, you can walk to Montgenevre for a drink, but we got a taxi. We had some beginners with us and they loved it. It's great for beginners, but if our kids hadn't been younger then we'd have got bored after a few days. However, you can buy an extension to Montgenevre and ski there (I don't know if things have changed and it's now on the same pass) You can also go to the the rest of the Milky Way on your pass. Some of our group got a taxi, there and back, as it's a long ski and you'd have to turn round and come back almost as soon as you got there. They loved it. They went to Sestriere and Sauze d'Oulx. As you are beginners you might find the local areas fine for the week. Whilst we were there it was very very cold and we had lots of new snow. It is is a nice place, not too expensive, friendly. I think some of the drags have been replaced by chairs since we were there as there was some investment due to it being a training area for the 2006 Winter Olympics. Sorry to say I don't know how the area was for boarders, but I would say it should be fine (especially as less drags now). Also while we were there one of the reps at another hotel was organising a trip to Turin to watch Juventus play Deportivo in a European game. My husband and son went and had a great time. |
