First time I skied was in Romania and they had the cannons pumping all morning. It was like skiing through hail. Not nice for kids. That was Romania though . . .

That's great news. We're going to Soll on 16th. Was there snow cover down to the village? Mrs Smoothie and I love the toboggan run but it needs snow down to the bottom to run properly. Cheers Steve Smoothie |

Great advice again, thanks Bandit. I suspected as much but Mrs Smoothie needs convincing the extra cost is worth it!

Hoping some of you veterans can help me out here.
I'm not the most experienced skiier. I'm about to head off to Soll for my 5th week skiing. I'm a blue/red cruiser. I don't go very fast and never off piste. I've always hired bog standard economy skis and boots which have always been absolutely fine. So my question is would someone of my limited ability get any benefit from upgrading to fancier, more expensive hire skis or would they be wasted on me? Any advice greatfully received. Cheers Steve |

Anywhere in the SkiWelt area of Austria is great value. 100's of kilometre's of varied piste. 3Euros for a beer and some gorgeous little Tyrolean villages. Its a bit low but there's always plenty of snow on the mountain.

I picked up a nice pair of Goggles for Mrs Smoothie for under 20 quid on Amazon. There are loads of base layers, long john's, hats etc. Good for anything you don't need to try on. I'm off for "a look" in the Cardiff TK Maxx today. Have you left anything for me? Steve |

Mrs Smoothie and I are heading out on 16th too. The Postwirt is great for an evening pint. Last year they had an Irish folk band on every night which while VERY cheesey was great fun.
The toboggan run down is a must too. Dump your ski's, hire a toboggan and get the last lift up to Hochsoll. Then after a couple of Jagertea's you can whizz down on the toboggan. Great fun. Steve |

I've bought one this year and it didn't break the bank. This one is £20 and although probably isn't the coolest it does conform to all the required safety standards. http://www.winfieldsmegastore.com/Trespass-Sky-High-Ski-&-Snowboard-Helmet-p-SKY-HIGH-c-TITANIUM.html If you decide you don't like it then its only £20 and if you do then you can splash out on a super fancy one later.
