La Plagne and Paradiski pass

Can recommend the Matafan if you decide to have one evening meal out - it shouldn't make too large a dent in the budget!
Last stayed at Hermitage about ten years ago! I think some of the beer drinkers in our group found an Irish pub not far from the Hermitage which had Happy Hour. Not a drinker myself so didn't take much notice - sorry!
I did buy a couple of bottles of French cider for about 1 euro each from the supermarket opposite the ice rink - quite palatable! The Alaska Pizzeria opposite the tourist office was also reasonable and very friendly service.
Skiing with Vertigo ?

I can understand you wanting to take your friend skiing as it is such a wonderful experience for most us. I just wonder if you might add panic attacks to the vertigo problem though?
Recently back from AdH and snow was superb. Prices varied quite a bit. Beer in chalet hotel was about 2.50, and elsewhere anything from 3.50 to 6 or 7, depending on where you were and whether it was Happy Hour (or two hours in some bars). Best value for lunch we found in AdH itself was Le Lac Blanc - by the DMC gondola and under a Neilson chalet. We had a decent snack lunch plus a drink for 12 euros for the two of us. Auris en Oisans was quite reasonable too. The restaurant at the DMC mid station was much more expensive however and it was 40 cents to use the loos! If you make a picnic lunch, there seemed to be plenty of places to sit and eat though. Hope you have a great holiday.

Alpe d'Huez is under two hours away and should suit what you are looking for.
Bargain perhaps!

Skibound have some deals for this weekend for £169 - could be sharing with a school though. Les Menuires or Tignes, half board and flights from Gatwick, Newcastle or Inverness!

Have a look at Folgarida in the Dolomites - Equity/Rocket Ski go there if you want to do a package. Small and friendly village and a cheaper option than neighbouring Madonna di Campiglio. Absolutely great for beginners, mountain scenery, reasonably priced mountain/village food, etc. but quiet at night!

Also just back from Alpe d'Huez. We stayed at the Chalet Bel Alpe with Ski Miquel - ski in ski out. No tie required for dinner!
