Thanks to this thread, I renewed our cards online on Tuesday and the new cards arrived in this morning's post. How efficient is that!
Lech

Lech is a fantastic place to stay and ski in. We have been twice, once doing our own arrangements in early March and the week before Christmas last year when we got an incredible deal with Total for just under £500 all in as they had just taken over a chalet. They also have a hotel called the Sonneck which is a bit out on its own but has a bus stop outside so very easy to get to slopes. Buses all run with Austrian efficiency. You cannot ski direct to St. Anton but again it is made so easy by linking buses. There is a ski circuit called the White Ring which you can only ski one way from Lech via Zurs, Zug and back into Lech. It is fairly upmarket but very friendly and we found the mountain restaurants good value. Hope to go back this year deal is right.

Les Arcs would be a safe bet in the New Year both for snow and a bargain. Good area for boarders with a big area just for boarding.
Tired of carrying my gear

We have a gadget called a Pocket Ski Sling. It is a sort of small bag into which you place the ends of a pair of skis and then attached to the bag is a sort of adjustable sling affair which clips round the bindings. You then adjust the strap to the right length to allow you to carry the skis over the shoulder and off you go. As an asthma sufferer in my fifties, this has proved to be the best Christmas present I have ever had!! Husband found the gadget online and I think he ordered four of them for about £20 or so about five years ago. The whole thing fits easily into a pocket while you ski.
Someone gave me a little gadget on wheels which looked great in theory but turned out to be totally useless in practice.

Just a thought - Christmas is coming so ask for socks/gloves for pressies? Also how about Freecycle - some people go skiing once with all the newly bought gear and then never go again.
Where next after Livigno?!?

Lech/St.Anton area has superb skiing and atmosphere with easy transfer from Innsbruck or Zurich. Stayed in Lech week before Christmas last year - bucket loads of snow and even saw Chemmy ski in St. Anton! Good ski bus links around the resorts. Take a look at Madonna area in the Dolomites or Sella Ronda, also Alpe d'Huez or La Plagne in France although not quite the same atmosphere as Austria?

Thanks for replies - on balance probably won't go. Booking tickets online only saves £1 each and £1 off parking and we are about 90 miles away. Some good discounts are starting to appear online.
