Best Place for family in New Years
Started by User in Austria, 1 Reply
Schladming is just over an hour from Salzburg and might suit you as a family. The beginner slopes are in the Rohrmoos area so would be a good place to base yourself rather than staying in Schladming itself and taking the bus to Rohrmoos? We skied the area twice over the Christmas period and loved it. Schladming is a proper working town and has good shopping etc. The Rohrmoos area has a fantastic toboggan run which is floodlit at night and we also went on a horse-drawn sleigh ride one evening. It is a few years since we last went there, so hopefully someone else around here has more up to date info?
If this is your first time wearing ski boots, I suggest you take some blister plasters with you! Compeed are really good, but I think Boots/Superdrug etc. all do their own versions.
If you wear glasses, you may find (like me) that you just can't get on with goggles worn over them. I wear wrap-around prescription sunglasses and that works best for me.
Just in case you are female, another tip would be to wear a crop-top sports bra - much more comfortable and no risk of bits digging into you or coming undone!!

Take a look at Serre Chevalier - should suit all of you, always seems good value for money on or off the mountain and has plenty of options re catering. If you have your own transport, Montgenevre is not far away with access to the Milky Way.

Just a thought, but has your wife tried on the new salopettes with her ski boots on and are they still too long? Would it be possible to replace zips with Velcro to make the resewing job easier?

It looks as though this may not be as straightforward as just going bust!

Prato Nevoso/Artesina might be worth looking into, but possibly too far away at 2 or 3 hours travel?

We once got a bargain deal which meant it was just us and one friend in a 'luxury' chalet meant for about 14 guests. We had two chalet staff looking after us and they were just great, plus hot tub, sauna, etc. all to ourselves. They offered to serve us breakfast later than usual so we could have a lie-in! Have a great time!
