But shouldn't it be the same for left and right ski? I think this is the reason for matching, so the skis in the end are identical. Just sorting them into pairs will make those odd sub-standards ones out easier.

That is what I am trying to point out. If you simply buy another single ski to replace the broken one, there is every chance that it will be different to the one you still have.

It may be that you won't notice the difference.

And this picture was taken from almost exactly where the helicopter landed, but 42 years later. The place really is special.

I first went there in 1979, and it was exactly as I remembered everything when I returned in 2011. Even the clouds below us seemed to be the same :P

Hmm, that does look interesting. Not too bad a price either considering the training and skipass included.

Hi VSB, it was not a left/right difference I had in mind. I am sure I saw a documentary a few years ago about ski making, and after they had turned out a batch of skis, they then set about matching skis into pairs.

This was to do with the way they flexed and twisted, and where on the ski they flexed and twisted. They were trying to avoid getting two skis, where one would flex x° halfway down the ski and the other would flex y° further forward in the ski.

These were mass produced skis as well, not hand made items where you might expect to find some differences.
