Hi all just a quick question. my partner and i are going skiing on 4th march. we have found several deals . the best of which is to andorra. we are restircted to this date but quite concerned to book in advance given the state of play last season and actually so far this season. ( not looking amazing so far ) thing is there currently doing deals for half price lift passes etc which brings costs down no end. my concern is if we wait and see and shed loads of snow does come will the prices go up as they seem to have done in france......

so do i just book it and trust the snow will be there. or wait and risk loosing the discouts offered...... help please if anyone has any suggestions.

When do you go ? i have returned today and currently the avalanche risk in le tour is very high ( some were evacuated 2 days ago ) brevent also completely closed on 21st for piste control. we skied a lot in les houches which was really good and great powder conditions. sure to be open and lots and lots of varied runs ....... just be aware of the chamonix bus system ( its terrible ) if your hotel has a shuttle service use it or you will be faced with 2 choices ( no 1 fight your way through the masses who decend at the end of the day or no 2 sit in the pub across the street and wait for them to die ) both busy options but very worth it for some great skiing. mostly best of luck and your going to love it. the place is intoxicating and you wont want to leave... enjoy

Did some Transceiver searches, skied in the trees underneath the Grand Montets c/c (just a little) and then headed over to Brevent where the Magic carpet chair lift was running. Very deep snow, takes ages to get up after a fall off piste. Made a big hole though  :D

I'm reliably informed that there is a picture of ^^^^^

oh mate i did the same in les houcjes today. had a fantstic day after the nightmare of the chamonix transport system and did several pretty big face plants also leaving some pretty big holes. really hoping brevent or flagere is open tomorrow....... either that or were heading to les houches again. gret conditions and plenty of runs to choose from . only 2 were closed ( that we did see )
Well were only just flying so hope we do get there. spoke to the hotel and they havent said there are any issues but its a concern.
Well would you believe it. from nearly no snow to 2meters in 2 days as reported first hand from the resort. black flags showing on nearly all higher runs and very few runs open anywhere but les houches ( seems thats my destination tomorrow then ) been told the piste team are working there hardest to secure the area and allow people to ski but with so much snow having fallen the risks are just too high. fingers crossed a cold night with little snow will help compact things slightly for the coming days, Going to be an interesting trip up to the valley i feel. lots of road warnings and closures for avalanche control. if anything that will be an experience always had really bad luck with snow and arrive way after its fell. hopefully first time on powder this weekend and what a place to learn ;-) could be a baptist of fire by the sounds of it and reckon were going to seek out some instruction.
SwingBeep wrote:We are expecting a lot of severe weather tomorrow http://www.meteoalarm.eu/index.php?lang=en_UK&AT=0&day=1 the forecast here is for hurricane force winds in the mountains and up to a metre of snow. When the storm has passed the pisteurs will do their best to open the ski areas as quickly as possible. It might be best to head for Les Houches rather than the Grand Montets.

wow that really is severe lets hope everyome stays safe during that time. and it passes quickly. i dont have a problem heading for les houches ( if it opens ? ) i guess we will just have to wait and see and hope the storm isnt as severe as they say . i cant see the pisters heading out if it is as bad as you say. seems there could be another little twist in this story of the opening season yet..... be safe

I have to wait 29 sleeps!!

Take some pics and post em up

Oh believe me i will. hotel has wifi so will try and do little daily photo blog on here. keep your eyes open people.
Iceman wrote:NO I cant provide any constructive advice on this matter. However there is one thing that I do know for sure.

You have booked your holiday and you will no doubt make the most of the 3 days that you are there. No matter how much worrying you do it will not change the conditions.

To answer your question about wind, 25-30kph is no way near a strong wind 25-30 MPH is. I cant see them closing lifts for the former?

Sorry if I upset you ;) <<<<< that is a friendly wink

thank you i appreciate that. yes i may be worrying a tad too much but i have spent quite alot of money and also bought all new gear including.boots and skis which probably adds to things. i also dont know a great deal about chamonix other than what i have read and you never know what to believe. as i said fingers crossed there will be skiing of some sort available this coming weekend. the snow has arrived lets just hope the wimds move aside.
