been reading a ski blog and there saying how warm its been and how bad the snow is melting but with the temps set to fall for a few days and some snow possibly on the way whats the general thoughts out there. ??

Heading out to les deux alpes on saturday morning. some sites showing a healthy 15cm which should if it comes make all the difference. i can handle skiing in falling snow and flat light for a few days if it means better skiing the back end.of the week. keep dancing people there could be more to come.

coops2 wrote:I ski'd in march a couple of years ago from scheffau in skiwelt. Enjoyed it so much, I'm going again on 3rd mar, like in 9 sleeps. Snow was great up top, all way down to middle station. Snow was still skiable all the way down to bottom station, but got progressively sugary. Even managed to ski through to westendorf. Any skiing' s better than no skiing. Days are longer, pistes less busy, and less need to get completely togged up. Take your cosi, last time I ended up sunbathing on the balcony in me shreds.

So, we've got sugary snow, porridgy snow, fluffy snow, sticky snow; how many other descriptions of types of snow are there out there.

just had a read of the easiski blog from l2a and already reports of warn runs and progressiely suspect snow conditions. with the temps only set to climb higher i have to say im pretty disapointed. when someone starts a statement with. man it really was very warm today. i start to worry. bit has been said theres nothing you can do but make the most of what you have. fingers crossed this warm snap ... snaps a little....

time for another round of snow dances people.

dobby wrote:Matt23, stop worrying. L2A has heap bit glacier. Lots of snow. Runs back to resort may be pants, but who cares? The green back to resort is rubbish anyway. If you want to keep an eye on snow conditions, use easiski's snow blog or www.2alpesnet.com. The reports on www.2alpesnet.com are funny, anyway.

Cheers.

Dobby (who'll be doing a snow dance cos you can never have enough of the stuff)

cheers for that but woth the current weather temps that are forecast im getting a little concerned. temps said to but way into the plus side of things and a friend currently in meribel saying things are very rapidly getting sugary and very tracked out even on piste due to sheer amount of people and the warmth....

really neex this warm snap to bugger off a little for everyones sake.

There's over 9 feet of snow where you're going, it won't all be gone in a week.

One year we went to Puy St Vincent at 1500 m - 1st day of skiing was 11 th April, it wasn't a remarkable snow year and we skied to the apartment door until we left on the 20th.

Ok, by the end we had to carry our skis about 10 feet to the door amd the melt was definitely on, but don't fret. You'll ruin your pre holiday excitement.

Have a great time.

hahaha pre holiday excitement. awesome. yeah i know i tend to fret a little about the weather but as posted before we had such a terrible experience last year in borovets i spent so much time trying to find the right place. im real excited about france as have never experienced main stream ski resorts before... once again only had to my trepedation...

thanks for the advice now everyone get doing the snow dance as a little dump right now would be amazing.

cheers guys

OldAndy wrote:Matt - spring skiing has some lovely plus points.

For one - it is warm and sunny, in fact can get pretty sweaty.
So sitting out for a beer or whatever is a real pleasure.

I really wouldn't worry about poor snow conditions (until much later in the season) there has been so much snow so far this season that a bit of heat won't remove it all.

snow-forecast.com is not showng very high temeratures @2000m for the next week, high of +3 and well sub zero over night

I was in L2A in January, a very last minute trip and I wouldn't have chosen the resort after a very poor experience donkeys years ago but it is a great resort.

have a read over this thread .....

I expect the Vallee Blanche side will be really icy to start and then get pretty damned slushy - it gets full sun from first thing.

On the main side, being north facing, I'm sure you will find good snow. As I remember a huge amount of this side was in the shade in January - so good for not melting too fast for you.

Do read the bit about getting back down - the first slopes to go will be the return to resort runs and whether you choose one of the blacks or the green road these are the runs that could be losing skiability over the next few weeks.

BUT - just come down from the good snow in one of the bubbles, rather than spoil the day with a rock hoping, congested nightmare.

I am really confident that there will be good skiing available for you next week.

Enjoy

thanks alot for this. i know most people are saying dont bother skiing down at the end of the day but im a little bit weird lile that and love if the option is there to ski down. im pretty confident that the higher slopes will be just fine but whats frustrating is that i paid a bit of a premium for ski in and out and within a week we have gone for really cold to stupidly warm... guess theres nothing you can do i suppose being the first week of march and having researched the average snow depths veing the highest at the beginning of march im a little disapointed. also feel im bloody cursed as last year in borovets we went on the worst week of the season which left some horrid memories for myself and my partner.

verbier_ski_bum wrote:It will be spring conditions across most of the Alps. Don't forget a sunblock:) There were tons of snow this season so temperatures don't matter - at least next week you will have plenty to ski on.

hi there. having never skiid in the spring i was concerned but after the weather a.couple of weeks ago i was more than excited . now with some forecasters saying temps up to +10 im kinda worried. we fly to les deux alpes next saturday where depths are still reported as 300cm but if this warmer weather continue im really worried there will be bugger all lerft when we arrive. well atleast lower down anyway where depths are around the meter.mark..... Any experience.or advise you can pass.over would be appreciated. matt ps forgive the spelling.im on my bloody phone.
