Eggman,
We watched St G play Samoens at ice hockey a few years ago, great fun. St G played in pink which amused us for some reason!
The Ski Helmet Debate
Started by Admin in Ski Hardware, 491 Replies, discussing Tignes and Val Thorens
I love the sensation of skiing free of head gear, but I reluctantly wore a helmet for the 1st time last year.

I was pressured into it by my family (not by media hype) as my husband had a nasty bang and had started wearing one several years before me. I'm not a sheep, but I suppose it made sense.

What I was thinking though was that I would never get on a horse without a hat and I usually wear one on a push bike too.
In neither of those activities is it compulsory in the UK and to my knowledge not in Europe either.

If I were considering helmet laws I'd consider those sports equally (probably more; no stats to back it up of course) dangerous. So maybe it'll be freedom of choice for a while yet. (As in my opinion it should be)

There you go Bilip - a bit more informative info!

Let us know how you get on - I am quite tempted to go back one day.
Zell am Ziller

Hi Billip,
I didn't reply sooner as it's almost 30 years since I went to Zell am Ziller so I'm sure it will have changed a lot. However as no one else has posted a reply I thought I'd let you know how I got on.

We stayed a lovely little hotel called The Kirchenwirt. We had to catch buses to the lifts, but i don't remember a long walk or it being a particularly long journey.
I spent a lot of time on my backside the snow if I remember (it was only my 2nd time) and I have photos of lovely tree lined runs.
On the last day our instructor took us to a place called Gerlosstein (I'm sure it was) and took us on a bar crawl. That was great fun. There was a single man chair there, but I'm sure it's long gone.

Being only 17 the thing I remember the most was the apres ski!
We had something on every night - a fondue evening, toboganning, Austrian evening, a party evening - all laid on for the tourists of course, but brilliant fun.
That's the thing I like about Austria - they love apres ski and although we've mostly gone to France recently (because it's closer to drive) I really want to go to Austria again soon.

Sorry I'm a bit vague on the details - probably a bit of non information really! I hope you have a great time.

Personally I'd would go for the one with the pool. Chances are the other one will have Christmas celebrations as well. Remember a pool is for the week. Christmas just one day!

From the helmet thread.
Never thought of the bobble as an item of seduction????
Each to their own then Ian - or whatever floats your boat.
Another advantage for the booble over the lid :D

Booble Andy?

A freudian typo maybe???

New places to visit next season

About 12 years ago we went skiing to a place in the Spanish Pyrenees called Panticosa.

It was an interesting experience to say the least, and quirky and novel as it was, we wouldn't go back
What I would say (although it's probably one of the 1st things you'd do) if you're thinking of going skiing in that area is check your transfer time as we flew to Barcelona and it took bl**dy hours.

AND...if anyone thinks the French are rude, you haven't come across the Spanish lift operators.
It's probably just their way, but they made absolutely no effort whatsoever.
