Pila is close by too and the town of Aosta itself has lots of shops, restaurants, Roman ruins, etc. if you want some time away from the slopes.

Spurred on by these snowy scenes, we have just booked to go to Lech on 13th December. So I think that makes it 57 days and counting?

If it is just the two of you and the first week of January doesn't involve New Year, I would suggest leaving the booking until last minute. This way you should get a good deal and be sure of the snow conditions. Choice of flights/airports might be more limited however.

Oh dear, you do need to get out on the slopes don't you ) You made me think of all the sounds you only hear when skiing, such as the chair lifts or the squeaking sound of someone walking in ski boots.
