Kimmer - I would like to echo what everyone else has said and wish you well for your forthcoming adventures. I was 39/40 ish when I first went skiing and the one thing I wish I had known before I went was how to put ski boots on/walk in them/know whether they fitted correctly/how they attached to skis, etc. I felt as though I was trying to ice skate and carry an elephant at the same time the first time I had to walk to a gondola from the hotel )
I hope you enjoy the whole experience and become as hooked as the rest of us. Having been on the ski train to Moutiers, I found it an enjoyable experience without all the hassle of an airport bunfight. I would recommend the fear of flying course however - my son-in-law did it last year and it has made such a difference to his attitude to flying. I also look forward to hearing how you get on ) |

What does your sister think about skiing with a boarder? When I was a beginner (and not exactly a youngster) I feared that scratchy sound of a boarder behind me and dreaded getting on chair lifts with one! It doesn't bother me now, although my 26 year old son still can't resist the urge to disappear off the piste and then re-emerge by jumping out on me ) I am sure you are a caring sort of brother?
If you stay in Salzburg to do the Sound of Music thing, it is worth the trip of about an hour to ski in Schladming. A working town with some good skiing and friendly restaurants - Onkel Willi's is a particular favourite. |

Are you unattached......I am not particularly impressed by the breathing underwater or the flying, but the immense fortune is definitely of interest! |

It's that feeling of being truly alive and it puts into perspective any problems, either personal ones or things going on in the rest of the world.

Several references recently to blue/purple rinses. Is this the latest must have ski accessory? Is one better than the other? My ski jacket is (electric) blue, so clearly I ought to have a blue rinse? My spare jacket is however green!! How old should one be to have one of these rinses? Should I be a grandma/wear twinset and pearls/knit, etc.
I am getting really worried now in case I am not sporting the height of ski fashion when next on the slopes. Any advice please? Desperate of East Angia |

The first time I went on the scare chair I think I stopped breathing for a few seconds - it really is an amazing chair. Really worth doing though as the views are just incredible and the runs over the other side down to Auris en Oisans are some of my favourite runs and they tend to be almost deserted. On the return journey, you can ski down to the bottom of the valley and pick up the chair, but the run was in the shade when we did it and quite icy. AdH may not have chocolate box charm but the skiing more than makes up for that.

Dids1 - our room did have a superb view of the blue run and beyond (but only if we stood on the dressing table). I am intrigued by your route to the slopes - ice, mud and the assault course! There was so much snow when we were there that it was skis on just outside the boot room, then shuffle across the terrace outside the swimming pool and then almost vertical through a couple of bushes and straight onto the blue run and down to the chair.
