Hi Michelle,

Don't rule out Austria either, there are many great little resorts where you can get a hotel for decent prices, and you get to choose depending on ski area from Salzburg, Innsbruck or even Munich if you want to fly. Not done it, but I am pretty sure there are a few rail options from Munich to several ski resorts. It's also not too bad to drive to, we take about 10-11 hours from Calais depending on traffic.

edit. You can also fly into Memmingen in Germany for resorts towards the western side of Austria, but not sure what the transfers would be like from there.

It is a great shame that they have decided to discontinue their self-drive option, I liked to use them simply as it was easy to book everything in one place, but not going to pay them full price for a holiday and then have to also fund a ferry or train ticket :(

Why not go old school and just kip on the floor at your mates place? It's how we used to do it back in the 80's :)

Heck I remember one year in Val D'Isere my mate did not even get his ski boots off for three days :o

If the runs are to remain closed all season, what are the chances of people being allowed to descend on the chair that would usually bring you up from the Sauze side?

Something I will do when looking for holidays with a single requirement is to start searching the tour websites for an initial holday for one person. That lets me know if they have availablity for a single and what the cost will be, I then adjust and add the other people and rooms and search again, hoping the same hotels can do all the rooms. Amazing how often a big TO will quote a reasonable price for a single person online, but then either decline or quote a crazy price for three people in two rooms. At this point a phone call usually gets a result.
