Hey guys.

Just wondering if anyone can help. Me and the Mrs been going skiing for a while now and have finally convinced someone to come along.

I've been looking around for ideally a Chalet for the 3 of us. I expected to have an under occupancy charge as we would need 2 rooms but I didn't expect it to be a full price 4th place.

As anyone come across this before? We are planning to go away week commencing the of 10th Feb. I thought the Chalet companies would be happy to take a 3 person booking as most of them still have plenty of rooms available.

Any ideas?

It's pretty common, yes.

Most tour / chalet operators will hold out in the expectation/hope they can fill their rooms at half-term. They (and hotels, etc.) will usually get a lot more flexible when it gets to last minute and they've still got space.

Where are you going, and do you need to use a tour operator? Some hotels/chalets, if booked direct, have a single room or two and some hotels offer reasonably-priced "mini-suites" with separate bedroom and sofa-bed in the lounge; that's worked well for us in the past with odd numbers of people.

I have found over many years that hoteliers in Austria and Switzerland are the most flexible on length of stay and offer suite-type rooms/adjoining rooms etc. One hotel in Switzerland gave me a three-bedroom apartment for the price of a single room! Hotel booking agencies on the internet (booking.com, hotels.de etc) are your friend!

Ok thanks I'll have a look. We are planning on going somewhere in France. Open to any country and resort really as long as there is snow.

We always book with your operators because of the transfers to and from resort.
I can see the flights are cheap but the transfers seem to cost a fortune.

Something I will do when looking for holidays with a single requirement is to start searching the tour websites for an initial holday for one person. That lets me know if they have availablity for a single and what the cost will be, I then adjust and add the other people and rooms and search again, hoping the same hotels can do all the rooms. Amazing how often a big TO will quote a reasonable price for a single person online, but then either decline or quote a crazy price for three people in two rooms. At this point a phone call usually gets a result.

Hmmm good idea. I'll give that a try. I called crystal ski yesterday and they wouldn't budge on the price.
I'm going to leave it very last minute I think and book a couple days before.

Looking at Alpine Elements. They seem to be more flex on the 3rd person price.

Might be worth considering Italy, as they don't really do February half-term so may be more hotel options available?
