I've never been alone personally but my mate goes quite regularly. He used hofnar or pistepals and always has a good word to say about them. Like someone else mentioned, you get ski guiding and other like minded people to hook up with. Unless you're the kind of person that people don't get along with! |

Interesting 8) How many spaces are there? I could be very interested but have a couple of mates who would want to tag along. |

We stayed there last year. The plus points are that it's relatively clean and the rooms are warm. The downsides are that the food is, frankly, awful! It's like an all you can eat buffet and I probably wasted more than I ate, the food was that bad. The ski hire shop downstairs is the worst I have ever used, crappy old equipment and uninterested staff. It was a pain having to get the ski bus to the lifts but top marks to the drivers, you didn't have to wait more than 10 mins for a bus. It's location means that you either brave a 15/20 min walk up the hill to Soldeu or an equally perilous downhill walk into El Tarter.
Would I stay there again? F*ck no! But we managed to get a deal which was £300 all in last year which made it just about acceptable. |

Tony, you have way too much free time on your hands!

I was thinking this just the other night. Was hoping to get away for a short break mid December but that looks highly unlikely at the moment. If this is to become the trend in Europe, might have to start looking further afield for reliable snow. Arctic Circle, anyone? |

They have fantastic snow making facilities on nearly all of the slopes so you'll have some skiing. I wouldn't worry in the least. By then the temps will be low enough for the snow machines to start getting a good base down.
Niederau is a very good resort for beginners. Make sure you book lessons with the Red ski school, as they are brilliant. Don't get talked into the Blue ski school! I imagine it'll be quite a nice resort to be at for xmas. Just as long as you don't like apres ski, as I found it livelier in my hotel room than in any of the local bars. |

I'll give you £40 for it, cash.

Tbf mate, my missus will only want to ski till lunch time. So, she'll have her lessons, ski an hour or so till 1 and then head back to the chalet for a rest. As long as the ski school can bring her on in that week, I'll consider it a success. I'm also hoping that the sunnier aspect will keep her on the slopes longer, as the last time she came with me it was bitterly cold most of the time and it didn't agree with her.
Bad Gastein is also still at the top of my list. Got a lads trip planned so trying to convince them that Gastein will be a better bet than Obergurgl, depending on the snow of course! |
